New! Camp Powerplay

NEW (LICENSED BY THE STATE OF MICHIGAN HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT)
Camp PowerPlay is a new addition to camp opportunities in Novi. Similar to the ever-popular Camp Lakeshore, the camp will keep kids engaged all day long with a variety of activities. Parents may appreciate the easily accessible Civic Center Campus. While at Camp PowerPlay, participants will take nature hikes, swim at Novi High School, attend sizzling Summer Art Series performances, create crazy science experiments, and play soccer, baseball and much more on the Civic Center Campus. The Civic Center Campus includes Ella Mae Power Park, Furest Park, and the Novi Public library.

Camp Lakeshore

(LICENSED BY THE STATE OF MICHIGAN HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT)
A part of the City of Novi fabric for many years, Camp Lakeshore offers hours of fun and exciting activities for campers using the wide open spaces and waterfront of Lakeshore Park. Participants will create delicious treats, build contraptions, experience nature first-hand, and share in zany science experiments. Campers will enjoy water sports, relay races, kickball, soccer and much more.

Parent friendly features include extended hours (7am to 6pm) with no additional fee. Daily rate available for campers participating one or two days per week; three or more days will be considered a full week.

Between the hours of 7-9am and 4:30-6pm, early/late campers will take part in general recreation activities. Full camp activities take place between 9am and 4:30pm. The camps will visit places such as Ford Field, Red Oaks Water Park, the Novi Ice Arena, Paradise Park, and more! Camp PowerPlay and Camp Lakeshore have a 1:10 counselor to camper ratio. Participants must bring a lunch and drink each day. Field trips every week.

NEW- CAMP LAKESHORE COUNSELOR IN TRAINING

The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is for young people who have completed 9th grade. Being a camp counselor is a lot of fun and a great responsibility. Participants will have a special training program where they will learn about being a counselor and develop skills necessary to be an effective leader. Additionally, participants will receive instruction in teaching techniques, camping skills, human relations and child development. Two to three young people will be chosen per two-week period. Teens will not travel on weekly field trips. Applications can be turned into the Novi Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services office at 45175 Ten Mile Road, attention Cristin Spiller. Depending on the demand, participants will be eligible for additional two week periods. Training will take place Saturday, June 13 at 10 am at Lakeshore Park with additional opportunities before the teen’s scheduled week. The program will include a trip to Cedar Point on August 22.

CAROUSEL ACRES – DAY CAMP ON THE FARM

Campers will experience life on the farm with brushing, feeding and caring for miniature horses and donkeys, calves, goats, sheep, bunnies, chickens ducks and more! They will ride ponies, spin wool, make crafts, play games, garden and cook. Carousel Acres has amazing animals from “the land down under”, a butterfly house, reindeer, alpacas, and llamas too. Please wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes. Campers need to bring a lunch and a drink. Latchkey is available before and after camp. WILDWIND EQUESTRIAN CENTER– HORSE CAMP

Learn a healthy sport that develops physical fitness and builds confidence. Wildwind has more than 30 horses trained for students. Riders from beginner to jump levels will be split into different groups according to ability. Grooming, tacking, feeding, and medical care will be taught for each level. The camp experience is rounded out with a horse show and potluck lunch on Friday for family and friends. All participants must fill out a Wildwind Liability Form. All riders must wear full length pants and a sturdy shoe with complete foot coverage.

TINY TOT–HORSE CAMP

Young children ages 4-6 will get hands-on introduction to riding. Each group riding lesson of six students will be attended by an instructor and helpers. Tiny Tots learn grooming, saddling, horse colors and more with miniature horses just the right size for the children. Games, bathing and feeding round-out the camp experience. There will be a show for the family and friends of Tiny Tot riders on Thursday at Noon. All participants must fill out a Wildwind Liability Form. All riders must wear full length pants and sturdy shoes with complete foot coverage.

NOVI TRAVEL CAMP

Come join the City of Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department staff and travel daily to a different location for a fun field trip. Some of the locations we will travel to include Red Oaks Water Park, the new DNR Outdoor Adventure Center in Detroit, and Putting Edge. Participants will participate in various camp activities (kickball, soccer, arts and crafts, relay races and water games) before and after leaving for trips.

YOUTH POLICE AND FIRE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The Youth Police & Fire Leadership Academy was created to provide area teens with an inside look at local law enforcement and fire prevention. During a one-week, four-hour a day course, Novi’s Public Safety staff will educate attendees on a variety of subjects pertaining to law enforcement and fire safety and prevention. Each Novi Youth Police & Fire Academy graduate will gain a deeper knowledge of how the Public Safety fits into the Novi Community. Topics covered include patrol operations, use of force, K-9 program, traffic laws and stops, judicial system, crime scene investigation, law enforcement requirements, F.A.T.S.– Firearm training system, fire department operations, fire station and training tower tour, home fire/ emergency safety, jaws of life and fire apparatus. THE GREAT CAMPOUT(S)

Great Campouts FlyerTake part in the ultimate family activity – The Great Campout. This year, you will have two opportunities to camp in Novi – at Lakeshore Park. Activities include hot dog cookout, lawn games, open beach until 8 pm, fire pits with s’mores, and a continental breakfast the following morning. Outdoor fireworks in June and an outdoor movie in August. The evening offers tent camping only on a 15x15 site with an adult present. There is a limit of two tents per site and SIX PEOPLE PER SITE. No pets. No refunds for this event. In case of inclement weather, camp at own risk. A $10 late fee applies following the registration date up until the Friday before the event if space is available.

PULLBACK CAR FRENZY LEGO® CAMP

Pullback Car Frenzy is a S.T.E.A.M. enrichment program designed to stimulate problem solving and creativity using new and innovative ideas! Students will build up to 10 cars using a design pamphlet for each vehicle. Students will become Junior Engineers challenged to design new vehicles utilizing pieces from supplied cars. Over the course of the class students participate in experiments designed to demonstrate science and engineering concepts and laws such as gravity, potential energy and kinetic energy. CHALLENGER BRITISH SOCCER CAMP

The #1 soccer camp in the USA and Canada is here in Novi! DETROIT PISTONS BASKETBALL ACADEMY CAMP

This camp is “Detroit basketball” at its best. For boys and girls of all skill levels, the camp is designed to teach valuable skills as well as the concepts and rules of the game. Players will receive first-class instruction from the experienced coaching staff as they work on skill development in the morning and participate in games/contests in the afternoon. BOYS’ LACROSSE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

Are you interested in developing your lacrosse skills? Player development clinics are guaranteed to make every participant a better lacrosse player, whether it’s your first time playing or you’re an advanced player. Coach Nick Diegel played D1 Club Lacrosse at Central Michigan University before becoming a D1 NCAA three-year varsity letterman at Ohio State University. Included in the clinics are skill development, off-season strength and conditioning, and healthy NCAA meal plans. Players will be required to provide their own equipment, including lacrosse helmet and stick.

Are you interested in the fastest game on two feet? Whatever your skill level, these lacrosse sessions will help you improve your knowledge and skills of lacrosse. Stacey’s School of LAX will provide instruction, drills, and fun learning games throughout the clinics. Players are encouraged to bring their own lacrosse stick, but no equipment is necessary. Girls will be separated by age group.

ART FUNDAMENTALS CAMP

Through art media exploration, campers will explore their imagination and expand on their creative process in this foundation focused camp. A variety of techniques and materials (including watercolor, tempera and printmaking) will be used to develop artistic skill and complete fun and engaging artwork. Please pack a lunch and snack each day. There will be an artist showcase on Friday to highlight the work done throughout the week.

NEW - AROUND THE WORLD CAMP

Your young artist will travel around the globe and explore distant lands and a variety of cultures through their art work. While exploring several different art mediums, your child will work on a variety of projects that reflect the cultures of the world and the diversity that resides on our planet. During week one, we will visit Australia, North & South America, and Europe. We will travel to Egypt & Africa, the Middle East, Russia, and Asia during week two of camp. Please pack a lunch and snack each day. There will be an artist showcase on Friday each week to highlight the artwork.

NEW - INTRO TO ART MINI-CAMP

Through fun, sensory experiences your child will be introduced to visual art. Children will explore the basic elements of design such as shape, color, and line while using many different art media and also covering basic art skills such as drawing and cutting. In this camp, your young artist can express creativity and gain self-confidence.

DRAWING AND PRINTMAKING CAMP

From pencil to ink and paint, your child will learn skills and techniques for creating unique artwork. Children will be introduced to basic drawing skills and then apply them to creating prints. Your child will explore a variety of materials, from foam to paper and cardboard that he/ she can use to creatively make beautiful artwork. All levels welcome. All materials included in the cost of the class. Please bring a lunch and snack each day. We will do an artist showcase on Friday to highlight the work done throughout the week.

MUSICAL THEATRE MINI SHOW CAMP

The fast-paced thrill of live theatre is taught in this week long workshop, ending with a musical theatre performance for family and friends the final evening of camp. The students will go through auditions, blocking, character development, vocal and music lessons, choreography, costuming, and show rehearsals. Each day isn’t just show business as campers will play a variety of theatre and improvisation games, have an opportunity to learn about the non-performance aspects of the theatre, and build confidence and life-long friendships. The camp’s staff members are all educational professionals with many years of experience. Students must bring a snack and lunch to each session, and need to dress in comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes. The camp will end with a mandatory performance at 7pm on the final day of camp (Friday, July 17).

ACTING FOR THE STAGE CAMP

During the three days of this camp students will be taught acting, auditioning, and improvisation techniques in a high energy theatrical environment. Each moment will be filled with theatre games, performance rehearsals, and explorations of acting techniques culminating in a short group performance Friday evening. Course instructors hold advanced degrees and have studied performance and theatre for the young, and are employed as drama instructors in the local high school arena. Students are encouraged to enroll in the Technical Theatre Workshop to provide a week-long, complete theatre experience. Students must bring a snack and lunch to each session, and need to dress in comfortable clothes and close toed shoes. The camp will end with a mandatory performance at 7pm on the final day of camp (Friday August 21).

TECHNICAL THEATRE CAMP

Students in this two-day camp will be immersed in the magic and wonder that is technical theatre. Hands-on workshops in lighting, sound design and engineering, scenic construction and design, and costuming will be taught by theatre professionals with decades of combined experience. Upon completion of the camp, students will have experience focusing stage lights, running and programming a light board, syncing and activating a microphone system, determining scenic staging needs, and realizing character costumes. Students are encouraged to enroll in the Acting for the Stage camp to provide a week-long, complete theatre experience. Students must bring a snack and lunch to both days.

NEW - PRINCESS BALLET DANCE CAMP

This camp is designed to help bring out your little one’s inner princess! Camp will include learning ballet basics with a fun fairy tale princess twist, as well as great games and crafts. Participants are to wear their favorite princess or ballet outfit, as long as they are able to move and dance freely. Please send a snack each day.
