CALL FOR CULTURAL ARTS INSTRUCTORS

The Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department is seeking talented individuals to become instructors. Classes for all age ranges include painting, drawing, fabric work, mosaics, quilting, recycled art, jewelry making, photography, musical instrument group instruction and all varieties of dance. If you have a way with people and a fl air for arts, crafts, music, dance, or other specialty, please share your talents with the community.

2015 Summer Art Camps

NOVI CIVIC CENTER ATRIUM EXHIBIT

This public gallery is coordinated by the Novi Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department. The gallery provides local artists the opportunity to display their work in the space and share it with the public.

If you are interested in showcasing your artwork in the atrium in 2016, please stop by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services office for an application or click on the link below. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: CAMERA TECHNOLOGY TO PHOTO TECHNIQUE

Six evening workshops designed to help you understand the functions of your camera and demonstrate how to turn your snapshots into memorable photographs. Learn how to apply the basic elements of art to your photography and learn how to visualize, anticipate, and create lasting memories. Bring your Interchangeable Lens Compact Camera (ILC), Mirrorless Compact Zoom Lens Camera (CSC), or Digital Single Lens Refl ex Camera (DSLR) and Instruction Booklet (required). Note: This is not for iPhone cameras. Video and Studio Lighting are not covered.

NOVI’S PUBLIC SCULPTURE EXHIBIT

The Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit continues to offer a unique blend of nature and art at the Civic Center Campus. Enjoy a stroll on the walking paths of Fuerst Park and experience the beauty of nature mixed with the creation of the human hand.

VILLA BARR

Villa Barr is a four-acre property, previously owned by internationally renowned artist David Barr, which includes a home, studio, and sculpture garden. Future plans for the property include a public park, sculpture garden, and cultural education center. Stay tuned for updates and upcoming program opportunities.

Tickets Information
Tickets for Novi Civic Theatre shows go on sale one month before the show opens and can be purchased in advanced at the Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services office, by calling 248-347-0400 or online. Tickets can also be purchased at the door the day of the show one hour before the show begins.

FLINT YOUTH THEATRE ACTING WORKSHOPS

These two day workshops are presented by the famous Flint Youth Theatre, the only professional theatre in the state of Michigan dedicated to performances for youth and family audiences. Their professional acting instructor will work with the younger participants on character exploration and development, and the older group will focus on story creation and improvisational playwriting. All levels of experience are welcome!

BALLET FOLKLÓRICO MÉXICO LINDO

Class Component

Students will learn footwork techniques, proper use of skirt technique (upper body), choreographic patterns and formations. Some props may be used such as fans, rattles, rebozo, bandannas, etc. Dance shoes with leather sole preferred, no sneakers. Students will learn about different Mexican folk dances by region. All levels are welcome.

Dance/Culture Class Component

Students will learn about the most important holidays in Mexico as well as the culture and traditions. Kids will learn and improve Spanish with speaking and writing games and activities.

NEW - HAWAIIAN BEACH PARTY

Surf’s up dude! Come out to Lakeshore Beach and join us for an awesome dance party! This event is in honor of National Dance Day, a nationwide event to encourage dance as a way to good fun and good health. The party will include a fun Hawaiian dance class in the sand along with pizza from Tony Sacco’s, punch, tunes and a free day pass to Lakeshore Park. The beach will be open for swimming, so do not forget your suit! This is a BYOBC event – Bring Your Own Beach Chair!

Location: The beach at Lakeshore Park. Park in the Lakeshore parking lot and walk through the tunnel to check in on the beach. The party will take place at Lakeshore Shelter #2 in case of inclement weather.

 

NEW - NOVI CIVIC DANCE COMPANY OPEN HOUSE

Come meet our great instructors and take a tour of our dance studio! We will have interactive dance demonstrations going on throughout the open house, with opportunities for you to meet the instructors and fi nd out more information about our classes. Demonstrations will include a special performance by Ballet Folklórico México Lindo at 2pm, a Princess Ballet dance session and more. Registration information will be available on site. This is a free community event for all to enjoy! No registration or RSVP needed, just show-up and bring friends!

NOVI CONCERT BAND

The Novi Concert Band invites interested adult musicians to join the group and meet new people who love to play music. The Concert Band rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30pm and performs throughout Novi and the surrounding area. Please contact noviconcertband@live.com for more information.

 

NOVI CHORALAIRES

Do you love to sing and want to be a part of sharing the joy of music within our community? Join the Novi Choralaires! The Choralaires are seeking new members for all voice parts. All who are interested in joining for the 2015 Fall Season are invited to attend the open rehearsals. The Novi Choralaires, founded in 1975, is a chorus of men and women from Novi and the surrounding communities brought together by a shared love of music and fellowship. They perform a Holiday Concert series in December, a Spring Concert in May, and at a number of venues throughout the season, which runs from September through May.
